R&D Scientist (Thin-film deposition)
This is an opportunity to join our team to develop the new generation of Peafowl photovoltaics.
We are looking for an R&D Scientist to join our team. You should mainly have experience from thin-film deposition using wet chemical methods (spin-coating, spraying, slot-die printing, etc). Experience in plasmonics, surface modification and photovoltaics is considered advantageous.
You have a solid understanding of materials science, and ample experience of applying your analytical abilities when designing experiments and assessing data.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced RnD Scientist with a passion for plasmonics to make a real impact on the development of transparent solar cells.
About the Company
Peafowl Plasmonics is an innovative technology startup company that manufactures transparent solar cells to provide the next generation of IoT devices. The solar cells are suitable for making energy-efficient units self-sufficient, such as indoor sensors, displays, and wearables. Peafowl Solar Cell is the first direct plasmonic solar cell that converts light into electricity using plasmonic nanoparticles.
Plasmonic nanoparticles can absorb up to ten times more light than other known materials. Because Peafowl Solar Cell is so efficient at converting the light it intercepts into electricity, it can produce electricity even when very little light is captured. This is the key to the cell's ultra-high transparency.
Peafowl Plasmonics is active in the global market. With a strong team spirit and high productivity, they have created a safe and dynamic work environment. You will be part of a wonderful team with a great passion for making sustainable power solutions. The company has developed a pleasant environment adapted to each person's conditions, regardless of whether it concerns opportunities for travel, learning, training, or family life.
Tasks:
- Develop new generation of Peafowl photovoltaics
- Perform, analyze and improve thin-film deposition of semiconductive materials, mainly through wet chemical methods
- Identify faults and possible improvements to the current Peafowl photovoltaic devices
- Characterization of thin films, using methods like SEM, AFM, XPS, XRD, as well as electrochemical and optical methods
- Establish routines for fast-screening of new materials and transporting layers
- Documenting laboratory work and procedures
The must-haves:
- At least MSc in material science, chemistry or equivalent
- Experience from thin-film deposition, especially solution-based methods (spin-coating, spraying, slot-die printing, etc).
- Three years hands-on lab working experience (preferably within industry)
- Extensive knowledge on material characterization
- Familiarity with laboratory health and safety standards
- Excellent communication in English (oral and written)
It is advantageous if you also have
- Experience in thin and/or semi-transparent photovoltaic technology
- Insights in plasmonics, experience of metal nanoparticle synthesis
- Knowledge on tuning material surface interactions
- Experience on ink formulation
- Experience of photovoltaic device characterization
